چکیده

We present F555W (V ), F439W (B), and F336W (U) photometry of 9507 stars in the central 2 of the dense, post core collapse cluster M30 (NGC 7099) derived from Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field/Planetary Camera 2 images. These data are used to study the mix of stellar populations in the central region of the cluster. Forty eight blue straggler stars are identified; they are found to be strongly concentrated towards the cluster center. The specific frequency of blue stragglers, FBSS ≡ N(BSS)/N(V < VHB + 2), is 0.25 ± 0.05 in the inner region of M30 (r < 20 ), significantly higher than the frequency found in other clusters: FBSS = 0.05 – 0.15. The shape of M30’s blue straggler luminosity function resembles the prediction of the collisional formation model and is inconsistent with the binary merger model, of Based on observations with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, obtained at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555. v 1 1 D ec 1 99 9 Radial Color Gradient and Main Sequence Mass Segregation in M 30 ( NGC 7099

It has long been known that the post–core-collapse globular cluster M30 (NGC 7099) has a bluer-inward color gradient, and recent work suggests that the central deficiency of bright red giant stars does not fully account for this gradient. This study uses Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 images in the F439W and F555W bands, along with ground-based CCD images with a wider fiel...

N ov 1 99 6 Globular Cluster Photometry with the Hubble Space Telescope . VI . WF / PC - I Observations of the Stellar Populations in the Core of M 13 ( NGC 6205 )

We study the dense core of the globular cluster Messier 13 (NGC 6205) using pre-refurbishment Planetary Camera-I images obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope. Short exposures (60 s) through the F555W and F785LP filters (similar to Johnson V and I, respectively) have been used to obtain V and I photometry of 2877 stars brighter than V ∼ 20 in a 1.25 arcmin region of the cluster including its ...

V I Photometry of Globular Clusters Ngc 6293 and Ngc 6541: the Formation of the Metal-poor Inner Halo Globular Clusters

We present V I photometry of the metal-poor inner halo globular clusters NGC 6293 and NGC 6541 using the planetary camera of the WFPC2 on board Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Our color-magnitude diagrams of the clusters show well-defined blue horizontal branch (BHB) populations, consistent with their low metallicities and old ages. NGC 6293 appears to have blue straggler stars in the cluster’s c...

Hst -wfpc2 Photometry of the Globular Cluster Ngc 288: Binary Systems, Blue Stragglers and Very Blue Stars

We report on new WFPC2 observations of the globular cluster NGC 288, focusing our attention on peculiar stars. A very pronounced binary sequence, paralleling the ordinary Main Sequence (MS) is clearly observed in the Color Magnitude Diagram (CMD) and a huge relative fraction of Blue Straggler Stars is measured. The dataset offers the opportunity of studying the evolution of a large population o...
